One Person per Year Challenge

I think we would all agree that there are more people that do not know Jesus than there are those who do.  Chances are if you are reading this blog you are one of the minority who knows Him.  It is even more likely that you are one of the Christians who wants to see other people come to know the Lord and see God’s Kingdom established in the earth today.

I think many times we look at the world with a gulp in our throat and a sense of foreboding dread about the condition of the society in which we live.  There is a lot of evil in the world today.  Christianity in many countries has lost the “shining city on a hill” status that it once held.  The church in many places has steadily marginalized its influence on culture and there for its relevance in the lives of mainstream society.  These are hard cold realities that cannot be ignored, but need not remain unchanged.

The key to a change beginning in your city and in your country lies with you.  The only way cities change is people have to change.  The only way people can change is when Jesus Christ becomes Lord of their lives.  As a believer in Christ you have the ability to bring the light and life of God to a lost and dying world.  You are the greatest catalyst for change available to the Kingdom.  You and I are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.

I wrote earlier in the month about a one disciple per year challenge to every believer.  I believe that if we would focus on bringing one person to Jesus Christ each year that we are alive we would have one of the most powerful times of evangelism the world has ever seen.  Imagine the power of not only introducing someone to the Savior, but helping them connect to the body and learn the truths of the faith.  You would be able to impart the faith that lives in you to someone else who would be able to do the same to someone else.  I know it sounds simple but the numbers are staggering.

  • 100 Christians at your church this year
  • 200 Christians at your church next year
  • 400 Christians at your church in year three
  • 800 Christians at your church in year four
  • 1,600 Christians at your church in year five

In this scenario you were responsible for only  5 new Christians in 5 years.  Imagine the impact on a global level.

My prayer for you is that your life could be a living example of bringing the love, truth and life of God to the world in which you live.  That the revival we hear spoken of and prayed for is as simple as embracing Christianity at its most basic form.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

These are our marching orders.  They are the will, plan and purpose of God for every believer that comes into the Kingdom.  God has come to live inside of us.  We have become the temple of the Holy Spirit.  God wants to work through us to reach the world around us.  He wants to do it in such a way that everyone will know it is Him working through you and not you trying to be all holy.  God wants to use you.

Some may refer to what we are discussing as a revival.  This may be exactly what we are talking about. Revival is when we return to being the people the Bible describes as Christians.  It is not a change in the way we have church; it is a change in the way we live.

Our church services should be celebrations of the work that God is doing in and through our lives outside of the four wall of the church.  We should come together to corporately worship Him and share the testimonies of what God is doing.  The main work of the Kingdom should be happening through us the other six days of the week.

Most people in the world do not go to church; they do not watch Christian television or listen to Christian radio.  Their interaction with the Gospel of Jesus Christ is going to have to come through the Christians they go to school with or go to work with.  Our movement must become a person to person movement instead of an event to event or service to service movement.  We must reach the people who do not come to our meetings.  We must reach the people that live where we live.

So, my challenge is extended to you as you read this.  Is reaching one person for Jesus each year that you live a realistic goal?

I want to see our world changed.  I want to see our societies reformed.  I want to see the population of heaven grow.  I want to fellowship with other believers who live what they believe; who reach out and share the love, life and truth of the gospel outside of the four walls of our sanctuaries.

My prayer for you is that you would answer this call.  My prayer is that you would know Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection.  I pray that the words “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world” would be truly realized in your life.  I prayer that your heart burn with passion and overflow with compassion to those who are lost around you.

May miracles, signs, wonders and gifts of the Holy Ghost flow through you; May men and women be hungry for the answer that lies within you; May your life be the catalyst for ushering in the end-time harvest; May you be the Christian that the New Testament describes.  May your life be blessed and be a blessing to others.  Amen.
